LO 1: Call Sheets

LO 1: Interview Script

The footage for the documentary will rely heavily on responses from the presenters in interviews; here are the questions we asked them. The people featured in this film include Franz Vonz, Jose Spinola and Phil Robinson.

  • Who are you and what is the name of your show?
  • How did you first get into Hip Hop?
  • How do you think Hip Hop has changed?
  • What are your favourite artists and influences?
  • Are they any differences in opinion between yourself and your co-host?

LO 1: Video Techniques and Inspiration from existing Hip Hop Documentaries

I'll be analysing these successful documentaries in order to make a promotional video with similar style and appeal. This video utilizes genre related music to maintain the flow, mixing sucessfully between scenes by introducing new tracks when the topic changes.

LO 1: Treatment

TREATMENT

‘Urban Expression’

Produced by Will Hewitt, Lewis Leversidge and Jake Dungworth

THE BRIEF

Urban Expression is a radio show that plays on radio station Sheffield Live! that plays underground and ‘old school’ Hip Hop music, and focuses on playing what they consider real Hip Hop and to promote and educate this to audiences. We are creating a short documentary on what the show is about and the music they play to promote the radio show to people interested in Hip Hop.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the documentary is to educate people about the history of Hip Hop and how it has changed and evolved since its beginnings. It will also give information on the radio show and what they aim to do with the content of their show.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience of the documentary will be people into Hip Hop music or those interested in finding out about Hip Hop and its culture. As well as this, those who stumble upon Urban Expression will have a small insight into what the show will be about.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

The hosts of Urban Expression ensure that music played on their show has profanity censored; the associated genres of hip hop and rap typically feature swearing and particular themes that should not be exposed to children. Although the radio show is broadcast past the watershed (9 pm), Sheffield Live! prides itself in community benefit so abhor any bad language or themes from broadcasts which may offend listeners. Therefore, the same regulations will affect the content of the promo we are making; swearing, racism, violence and sexual themes etc. will not be shown in the video.

In terms of background music (BGM) played during the video, we will have to make sure that rights to use copyrighted material are secured or alternatively use copyright free material from websites such as audiolgfl.com, which we have used previously for other media units; for example in Unit 46 and 43, for our Film Trailer and Television Segment.
